I have observed that creative entrepreneurs – those who are in love with their product – tend to find the business side challenging. They have a good idea of what they need to do, but the path to completion is unclear and maybe even overwhelming. In these situations, the easiest thing to do is return to their comfort zone – Product development. A year later, they may find themselves ‘still at the drawing board’ and there is no sign of a launch any time soon!

How do you come further?

I have developed my own guide to problem solving which is a Multi-Method and Creative approach to problem solving. I use the frameworks of Design Thinking and Lean Startup combined with various design methods to help entrepreneurs discover new opportunities within their business and develop realistic action plans with the end user in focus. I visualize our session on the whiteboard which is helpful in processing data quickly and creating conversation. In addition, being aware of our own mindset can either help or hurt our process, so focusing on what we think is true is essential for progress.

It is important …

…for the creative entrepreneur to understand himself and what is important to him. Using time identifying the tools in the entrepreneur’s toolbox and understanding what he values, creates a strong foundation for growing a business.

But most of all, we need to understand the users’ needs and what they are trying to achieve. When we understand the user, we understand their problem. When we understand their problem, we can create a product solution that matches, and that’s where the fun begins!

This approach is intended to help the creative entrepreneur find and create action plans that can be executed with a high level of confidence. By putting our customer in focus, we can better understand if our product is solving a specific problem for them. When we are confident that we have an interested customer segment, we are much more motivated to move away from the drawing board!
